  1. Friendish: Reclaiming Real Friendship in a Culture of Confusion by Kelly Needham

I love how authentic this book is. The author will show you what true Jesus-center friendship looks like and how it can impact your life. As moms, it is quite hard for us to find genuine friendships and make them last because of our culture and our family commitments.

But we need true, deep, life-giving friendships more than ever! “Friendship is an irreplaceable gift in the life of a Christian.” (pg. xv) And with the Lord, we don’t need to settle for “friend-ish” but can experience beautiful earthly friendships with Jesus as our first true friend!

I love that the author first discusses counterfeit or dangerous friendships to be aware of. Then she discusses how the Bible shows us what friendship is all about.

  1. The Well-Watered Woman: Rooted in Truth, Growing in Grace, Flourishing in Faith by Gretchen Saffles

What is a well-watered woman? It is someone who daily pursues Jesus and lives a rich life for Him! “Jesus himself is the Well she drinks from daily.” (pg. 7) And while this book isn’t specific to motherhood, and applicable to any woman, it hits home on several motherhood points.

Specifically, I appreciate the reminders of surrendering a life a striving to Jesus, because in motherhood we can chase so many things in hopes of fulfillment. We will never be successful in motherhood if we aren’t rooted in Christ first. Our joy in motherhood can’t come from coffee, vacations, and naptime, but Jesus! And even our mundane actions matter for the kingdom of heaven.

Every woman can relate to the various examples in this book! It is one of the Christian mom books that will bring you back to scriptural truths you need reminding of.

  1. Create Anyway: The Joy of Pursuing Creativity in the Margins of Motherhood by Ashlee Gadd

I have written many times about how this blog has been an incredible creative outlet for me, especially as I entered motherhood. I have loved that I can be creative while being a wife and a mother, and the wonderful things I have learned through it all.

However, I have also embraced my creativity through my gardening and various homesteading tasks. Perhaps it’s painting, knitting, photography, pottery, poetry, cooking, writing, drawing, house projects, thrifting, swimming, etc. for you!

This book encourages mothers to find that creative energy and embrace it in the margins of their day. It is amazing how we see creativity in the creation that God made, in the way our children play, and yet we forget to embrace it in ourselves as mothers. This book is one of the Christian mom books that brings Biblical truths to practical realities!

  1. On Getting Out of Bed: The Burden and Gift of Living by Alan Noble

Life is not easy, and we all struggle with mental affliction at times. Reading this book as a mother will encourage you in your weaknesses. Why is it really important to get out of bed?

We proclaim Christ each day that we rise and worship Him! “When your days are filled with mundane tasks…it can feel impossible to build momentum, to feel like your life is going anywhere for any purpose.” Pg. 45 But as we choose to the do the next right thing, we glorify God.

Through despair and moments of depression, as we can experience in motherhood, we can use our suffering to communicate where our hope lies. If you are in a difficult season, continue to read your Bible but also be reminded of Biblical truths in this book.

  1. The Emotionally Healthy Woman: Eight Things You Have To Quit To Change Your Life by Geri Scazzero

Quit being afraid of what others think; quit lying; quit dying to the wrong things; quit denying anger, sadness, and fear; quit blaming; quit over-functioning; quit faulty thinking; and quit living someone else’s life – these are the chapters of this book.

As women, God has gifted us with deep and beautiful emotions. Yet, we have to learn how to maturely regulate these to glorify Him and set an example for our children in motherhood. This is one of the Christian mom books I wish I had known about sooner.

Too often we blame our emotions on our circumstances, our cycle, and our husbands. Our emotions are meant to serve our God and this book can help you discover how to work on them and be effective.

  1. Awe: Why It Matters For Everything We Think, Say, and Do by Paul David Tripp

While this book is not specifically written for mothers, it is a wonderful read from that perspective. As mothers, we need to remember our eternal perspective and stand in awe of God every second of our day!

The parenting chapter is especially helpful in remembering the big picture – God wants us to target the hearts of our children! When we capture the glory of God ourselves, we can pass that along to our children. And, whether you are a working parent or not, the following chapter on work helps keep our perspective clear.
