When it comes to Easter, I believe it should be celebrated just as extravagantly as Christmas is. These Christian Easter books for children can help you do just that!

While Christmas is the time that we recognize and remember Jesus’ birth, Easter is the time when we celebrate that Jesus rose from the grave after His brutal death. He conquered sin at last and made a way for all of us to be forgiven and enter Heaven, despite our horrible sinful nature!

That is certainly worth celebrating with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength! But just because our culture doesn’t have quite a big focus on Easter as there is on Christmas doesn’t mean we can’t make it a huge deal in our Christian homes!

One way we can make Easter come alive is by having a collection of Christian Easter books for children that will be read over and over again during the Easter season. Books like these have a magical way of making the stories about Jesus be real and relatable.

They help our children recognize the importance of the holiday and realize that it’s not about Easter bunnies, egg hunts, and lots of fun candy. These books share the true meaning of the Easter season!

  1. The Tale Of Three Trees Retold by Angela Elwell Hunt

I was gifted this book by a friend when I was pregnant with my first daughter. My friend assured me I would love it as much as her family does, and it’s true! This is one of my favorite books on the list of Christian Easter books for children.

The book is based on a classic folktale of three trees. They each want to be something majestic and important when they are chopped down. But, it turns out they are used for much more insignificant things, or so it seems.

The trees end up being used for various parts of Jesus’ life. It is a perfect reminder of the sacrifice Jesus gave for all of us!

The illustrations in this book are fun and make the story come alive. It is available in both hard picture back form and board book form. I love that this book summarizes the gospel message in a way that’s easy to understand for young children and toddlers.

  1. The Grand Easter Day By Jill Roman Lord

This is one of the Christian Easter books for children that is perfect for your Easter collection because it focuses heavily on the resurrection of Jesus!

It repeats the phrase “that grand Easter day!” as it tells the story of Jesus being buried in the tomb and then the events that follow. The repetition is cute and fun to read, and it shows your children how joyful this event really is! It is a day worth celebrating!

  1. The Donkey Who Carried The King by R.C. Sproul

This book follows a young donkey named Davey who feels like he has a meaningless life until he carries Jesus! It is all about depicting Jesus as the Suffering Servant through the eyes of the donkey that he rode on.

This makes the concept of Jesus being a servant relatable to children. It also encourages them to serve the Lord and bring glory to Him all the days of their lives!

I really appreciate the guide for parents at the end to help them start meaningful and deep conversations, and also answer questions your child may have in an age-appropriate way.

  1. Holy Week by Danielle Hitchen

We have several of these Baby Believer board books and I love every single one! This one specifically walks your child through the various emotions they feel. It then ties those emotions to something about Jesus during the Holy Week of Easter that we celebrate.

This will help your child understand emotions, parts of Jesus’ life, and especially the significance of Easter!

  1. The Egg Tree by Katherine Milhous

Have you heard of an egg tree? I hadn’t until I heard about this book for the first time. Many families will use read this book as part of an Easter tradition, such as before or after dying or coloring eggs.

The children in the book display their colorful eggs by hanging them on a tree! While this book is from the 1950s it doesn’t have specific Biblical themes. However, I have heard of several people using this classic book to share the Biblical story while decorating eggs.

This book will teach your children the story of Lazarus and how Jesus can end all goodbyes with eternal life! I love that this book ties in the concept of death with hope and eternal life in Christ.

Death is inevitable in this world and it’s not something we should sugar-coat for our children. Death leads to eternal life, and we want to share with them that it can be eternal life in heaven! As hard as pain, suffering, and death are, they do bring us closer to Jesus when we put our faith in Him.
