As moms, we constantly meet everyone else’s needs from crying babies to hungry husbands. It’s so important to have healthy habits for moms, despite being so busy!
To fill everyone else’s cup, you first need to fill yours. Take care of yourself so you can care for your family well. This is accomplished through the little, simple things we often forget to prioritize daily.
None of these healthy habits are mind-blowing, but being diligent in implementing them allows moms to serve others well and joyfully! And, on the other hand, when we don’t implement them it will lead to burnout, exhaustion, and stress.
I’m not perfect at these myself, especially with 3 children under 3 years old! But as I grow in my motherhood journey I gain more experience and refine these habits to my current season of life.
These are reminders to me as much as I hope these are encouraging to you!
Let’s check them out…

Pray and Read Scripture
The first of the healthy habits for moms is to start your day with God. Read your Bible, pray, and spend some time meditating before the crazy day unfolds ahead. I love following plans that help me read through the Bible in a year to keep me constantly in a new place of scripture.
I also love to pray through one of the Psalms. I learned the technique recently by reading this book. The verses help spark different thoughts and keep my prayers focused!

Drink Water
The next of healthy habits for moms is to drink your water first thing in the morning. And, consider giving up caffeine altogether.
After I became pregnant with my first baby I had an aversion to caffeine and cut it out cold turkey. I have made it a point to never go back, and now 4 years later, I still have not had caffeine.
It has truly made a difference in my health and how I function. Plus, I avoid so many headaches from not drinking enough water or drinking my coffee by a certain point. My husband and I love this coffee alternative!

Get Sunlight and Go Outside
We have animals so farm chores make getting outside necessary for me and the kids each day. After breakfast, we go outside every day, and I do them before bed every evening. But even just taking a walk, even a bit past the mailbox, can make a difference in your mood and health!
You can even get an indoor walking pad if you have long winters like we do. Get creative and find something you love that forces you to have some outside time each day.

Eat Whole Foods
Processed foods are horrible for you. Be intentional about purchasing whole foods and setting aside time each day to prepare them. You can have anything you want – cookies, crackers, bread – as long as you make them yourself!
I was a horrible cook when I first got married and I relied on my crockpot almost every day. Now I love my instant pot and cast iron skillets to make almost all our meals. It’s so easy in today’s day and age to throw together a nutritious meal! You just need some good recipes and some practice.

Take Supplements Regularly
I’m not the person who purchases a lot of supplements, as I like to get my nutrition from whole foods. However, I do make several of our capsules and pills.
I encapsulate our freeze-dried rabbit livers so that we are regularly consuming organ meat. I also freeze-dry our leftover greens from the garden and make green pills for extra nutritional boosts when we need them!
Consider consuming the right supplements regularly as one of the healthy habits for moms.

Know Your Cycle
Energy levels, cravings, attitude, and more are all affected by what point of your cycle you are in. Don’t let that become an excuse for your actions but instead, let it be awareness to you for the health decisions you make that day. There are so many free apps that make this easy to do.

Consider Workout Options
You probably don’t need intense cardio in your life right now. But some sort of movement and strengthening of our muscles help us stay healthy as we age. Consider some sort of workout or strengthening time in your day, maybe first thing in the morning so it’s not a hassle!
-
Get Ready Every Morning
Ideally, before your children are out of bed too! Each morning, I get dressed and take care of my hair. I’m not wearing makeup every day or curling my hair, but I am feeling put together and ready to accomplish the day!
Getting yourself ready is a huge part of setting the tone for your day.

Into Bed On Time (Or Early)
My husband and I are night owls, so this is something we regularly struggle with. It’s hard for us to get to bed early or on time most nights. It’s something we have to be extremely intentional and diligent about.
However, when we do make it a priority and it is one of my healthy habits for moms, I can see the positive impact in my life almost immediately!
-
Keep A Tidy House
A cluttered house makes everyone feel stressed, even subconsciously. We owe it to ourselves to keep a tidy house. Something I am working on is having a place for everything (and everything in its place, as the saying goes).
Focus on just one space like your bedroom to start. Keep it clear of clutter for a week and then move on to another space, like the bathroom. As it becomes a habit you won’t even think twice about keeping it tidy.
Another secret is to declutter often. Rid your house of things you no longer need and keep your space minimal! Less to manage means less stress.

Find Time For Your Creative Outlet
What’s your creative outlet? For me, that’s my blog. I love writing my thoughts here and connecting with my readers. Perhaps you enjoy a good book or podcast, drawing, sewing, cooking, making beds, etc. Whatever it is, make time for it in your day.

5 Thankfuls
I’ve shared about my husband and I’s evening routine before here. We each say five things we are thankful for and three things we loved that the other person did that day! It keeps us connected and on the same page.
Remember to either journal or say five things you are thankful for each day to stay focused on your blessings in life and what truly matters!

Time To Yourself
The last of the healthy habits for moms is to remember to take some time for yourself. It usually isn’t given to us unless we ask. Ask your husband or your mom to watch the kids for you while you have a morning to yourself.
Maybe this is only once a month or a few times a year. Use the time to refresh yourself by doing something you love. It could be browsing the thrift store kid-free, going to a coffee shop with friends, or taking a drawing class.
These healthy habits for moms, though small, will make a lasting and significant impact when you diligently implement them in your life! Which one will you be focusing on first? Let me know in the comments below!
