Wedding Weekend

We traveled downstate at the beginning of the month to celebrate our friends Jacey and Cameron as they got married! I was honored to stand by Jacey’s side, and it was fun to celebrate with them.

My family also enjoyed a quick visit with Harmony. She’s four months old already, reaching and grabbing for things, and loves tummy time! I think she’ll be crawling before we know it.

Addition To Tiny House

As soon as we came back from the wedding, Landon started working on our house addition.

If you don’t know, we are building on an additional room to the side of our tiny house. The main benefits are a door to close when Landon is working and more space to move our washer and dryer and pellet stove from the barn to the house.

So far, the floor is done, and the walls are going up!

Rabbit Update

Our rabbitry is still going well. We have three females that either just gave birth or are pregnant. In a few months, we will have a few more that are ready to breed.

I’ve been bringing a rabbit to the Farmer’s Market each week to advertise our rabbit meat. We had two people buy rabbits directly from us and many more names of people who are interested.

We’ll keep expanding and growing our rabbitry as we are able to serve local fresh rabbit meat to our community!

Farmer’s Market

Speaking of the Farmer’s Market, it has been going so well! We have chicken eggs and natural bug spray made from essential oils for sale each week. And we advertise our rabbit meat, rabbit manure, and rabbits! We sell out of eggs each week!

If you are in Houghton Tuesdays from 4-6, be sure to stop by. I would love to connect with you!

Turkey Eggs

Our turkey is laying her eggs again!! It has been so fun and exciting to collect them. We get about one a day.

I was even selling them on our Etsy shop for a time (they were doing good!) but Etsy removed the listing sadly, saying it was a prohibited item. If you ever want to try some of our turkey eggs let me know!

Disc Golf Tournament

Landon is getting exceptionally good at disc golf and plays with friends a few times each week! He saves the money he makes from selling custom mini discs on our Etsy shop (check them out here) to purchase the items he needs for the sport, like a portable disc golf basket, a disc bag, and of course discs.

It’s been fun to walk the course together Sunday afternoons after church.

He entered his first tournament this month. It was a local doubles tournament and his team received first place in the third heat, even earning some more money to use for future disc golf tournaments! I’m so proud of him!

Learning To Forage Our Land

Our sweet neighbor came over and showed us several plants that we can forage on our land. Some things are wild raspberries, cherries, chives, hazelnuts, and more!

I can’t wait to start doing this more in the upcoming months and years!

Prune Apple Trees And Garden

Right now, while Landon works on the house, my big projects are to prune the apple trees on our land and start assembling my garden.

We have quite a few apple trees which is amazing, but they have been left untouched for years. Our land sat on the market for three years before we purchased it. So, pruning the trees is quite a lot of work.

This time of year is not ideal for pruning apple trees but with so many to do, we have to start now. Hopefully, I can finish them up before the apples are fully grown (if the frost didn’t kill them all).

For my garden, I am deciding to outline the rows with rocks leftover on our land. Then I am putting a layer of dried grass for mulch and then piling manure, both chicken and rabbit, on top. I am hoping to get 10 rows done before winter comes.

It’s my own version of the lasagna method, which I tried last year at our old house. I just wanted to enclose it this year with the rocks and also avoid using cardboard on the bottom to keep things more organic.

We’ll see if it all goes well next year when I go to plant the garden!

Kittens

We have two new farm animals on the homestead this month – kittens!! We named them Perch and Pike. Our neighbors were giving them away for free and I couldn’t say no.

Our mouse problem is pretty much gone but we still thought it would be beneficial to have the kittens on the farm to keep future mice and rodents away. It’s been so fun to see the dogs interacting with them. At first, they went crazy but now they are getting used to them and trying to play with them.

Family Visiting

Landon’s mom and sisters came to visit us on the homestead this month for a quick weekend trip. We loved having them here, showing them some of our favorite Keweenaw Peninsula sights, and just hanging out.

More family will be visiting us next month for July 4, yippee! Stay tuned for next month’s update!
