It’s a new year and that means a new round of homesteading updates! If you missed some of last year’s or you want a quick summary, then be sure to check out Our Homesteading Journey – Reflections on 2020.

I’m afraid there is not much to report for the month of January, other than the birth of our daughter on the last day of the month! We are thrilled to have Harmony Sage in our arms at last and instead of diving into her whole birth story here, I have written a separate post that you can read here.

There are really no animal updates this month. The chickens are laying much less and surviving the bitter cold without a heat lamp. The rabbits are still cozy in the barn and none of them are pregnant. We will be able to process our last litter of meat soon. And our pups are doing well and very much enjoying the snow!

On a sad note, I found out that my honorary grandfather, Samir Massouh, passed away. He had been battling cancer for the past several years and his body was slowly declining. My family and I miss him dearly and can’t wait to be reunited with him again in heaven soon.

Landon also spent the first weekend of the month with his brother Kyler installing a new tiny stove into the tiny house. He also learned a bit more about how it retains heat in the cold winter months and will be making some improvements this summer.

Lastly, the two weeks leading up to our due date and the two weeks after, we had no idea when the baby would come. We stayed home for the most part and tried several ways to naturally induce labor. We went on lots of winter walks as a family and played disc golf quite often. It was fun enjoying the time as a family of just the two of us and the dogs before we welcomed Harmony into the world.

Again, you can read her birth story here!

Stay tuned for an exciting update next month as we finally make the official move to our homestead, Lord-willing!
