I didn’t do a great job of keeping track of everything that happened this month because we were just so busy! But I’ll do my best to remember…

Our Homesteading Journey - July 2021 Update

Don’t forget to Pin this image for later!

Family Visiting

We had a blast with so many friends and family coming over and visiting us on our new homestead! We grilled out, hung out on the water, lit a massive bonfire, played pickleball, shoot guns, lit off fireworks and so much more!

This has got to become an annual tradition – we can’t wait for next Fourth of July already!

We also were able to travel south and visit some friends of ours who just had a new baby and are about to move to Alabama. It was so fun meeting little Selah!

Rabbits – New Life and Death

Unfortunately, one of our breeding female rabbits passed away. I walked into the rabbitry to feed her that morning (she had just given birth about 10 days prior) and she was lying dead at the foot of her cage.

We dissected her and it looks like there was a constipation issue. Just a reminder that homesteading has ups and downs and even though those days can be pretty discouraging, we need to stay focused on what we have been blessed with/can control, and also aim for it to not happen again!

We also had another litter of 10 baby rabbits (now we have 27 babies currently!) born this month which was exciting.

Farmer’s Market

We are doing so well at the Houghton Farmer’s Market and selling out of eggs almost immediately. Additionally, we have been getting a lot of interest in our rabbits/rabbit meat/rabbit manure. And, I sell a homemade essential oil bug spray as well.

I enjoy going each week with Harmony and hopefully next year we can have even more eggs and produce to bring!

Church Softball League

Every Tuesday for the past few months Landon has been playing in the church softball league. Well….they won the whole thing!!! I’m so proud of them!

Ducks!

Some of our neighbors gave us a couple of ducks to add to the homestead! We did have an incident with the dog, but everything seems to be sorted out now.

They are so cute swimming around in our pond. What a cute addition!

House Addition

Landon is still working hard on the house addition and takes breaks to play disc golf with friends! Right now the exterior is just about done, and then he’ll be focusing on the interior.

I’m also still working on pruning the apple trees and working on setting up the garden for next year.

Well, so far that is all I can seem to remember! If I think of anything else, I’ll be sure to add it. Summer sure is a busy time, but most of it is with the same monotonous tasks that have to get done before winter, with a little fun sprinkled in here and there of course.
