Living on a homestead means we are a busy family! As a result, I’ve established go-to meals as a homestead mom that works for our family in each season of life.

Because there is always a project to get done or a task to complete, meals need to be easy but also incorporate our homestead produce. We raise our own chicken, rabbit, eggs, berries, apples, garden vegetables, and hopefully more in the future!

These go-to meals require no thinking and I always have the ingredients on hand. The food we don’t raise or grow ourselves is purchased in bulk, usually from a local bulk food store.

I hope these meals can be an inspiration for you, whether you live on a homestead or not! They are simple, quick, delicious, and certainly healthy! Plus, grocery shopping is a whole lot easier when all your main ingredients are always stocked up in your pantry.

Our meals always consist of a protein source as our main base and then veggies, fruit, or carbs are added along! Our meals are also gluten-free and dairy-free but these meal ideas will be for everyone.

Let’s dive right in…

BREAKFAST

My first of the go-to meals as a homestead mom is a smoothie. Our family drinks the same smoothie every single morning and we never get tired of it! In fact, we love it so much we are sad if we run out of ingredients and have to go a day without it.

Drinking a quick smoothie before going outside and doing the animal chores is a great way to still get all your nutritional needs without cooking a hot meal.

We make our smoothie in this blender and fill up the cup in this order – one banana, one handful of spinach or other garden greens, two scoops of collagen powder, two scoops of protein powder, frozen berries, and whatever nut milk we have on hand.

The next favorite quick meal is peanut butter toast with fruit. It has protein, carbs, and other vitamins that you need for the day, plus it’s quick and delicious! Make sure to purchase organic peanut butter like this one because peanuts are highly sprayed.

When we do have a few extra minutes in the morning, we fry up a couple of our farm-fresh eggs and meat that is left over in the fridge for a tasty omelet or skillet.

LUNCH

During my last pregnancy, BLTs became one of the go-to meals as a homestead mom I couldn’t go without. They are so quick and easy and, in the summer, you can’t beat those fresh veggies!

Another great protein option that is quick for lunch is tuna sandwiches or tuna with corn chips. We like to mix our tuna with homemade mayonnaise, mustard, relish, and some garlic powder!

Of course, with always having so many eggs on hand we love egg salad or just boiled eggs with veggies as a quick and easy lunch option.

We also eat our leftovers often for lunch because nothing goes to waste on the homestead!

DINNER

Another of my favorite go-to meals as a homestead mom is soups and stews! We especially enjoy these throughout our long and cold winter months up here in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Some of our favorites come from this cookbook: Affordable Paleo Cooking with Your Instant Pot: Quick + Clean Meals on a Budget by Jennifer Robins

We also love this cookbook, The Whole30 Slow Cooker: 150 Totally Compliant Prep-and-Go Recipes for Your Whole30 ― with Instant Pot Recipes by Melissa Hartwig Urban, and this one, The Ultimate Instant Pot cookbook: Foolproof, Quick & Easy 800 Instant Pot Recipes for Beginners and Advanced by Simon Rush, because the meals are so tasty and nutritious with easy ingredients we have on hand.

My favorite way, and pretty much the only way I like to make all these soups is with our Instant Pot. In fact, I usually am using my Instant Pot more than once every day because it makes homecooked meals so quick and easy! Plus, I can set it and go without worrying about it boiling over.

Tacos are the next quick and easy go-to meal that we enjoy as a family quite often. We usually have leftover chicken, rabbit, or venison meat in the fridge from a previous meal that week. Then all that is required is to throw the toppings and tortillas on the table! We love to eat homemade sauerkraut and homemade salsa with our tacos too.

The next easy meal of the go-to meals as a homestead mom is pasta!

We usually get a chickpea or lentil pasta, which makes it very high in plant-based protein! Then our secret ingredient is a can of coconut milk. It makes the pasta sauce extra creamy and delicious while adding so much great nutrition to the meal too!

Because we raise our own chicken and rabbit one the easiest meals for me to make is a whole chicken or rabbit with a vegetable and salad on the side! It sounds so simple but honestly, it is such a delicious and easy meal!

Another easy meal to use up our frozen or freeze-dried garden vegetables preserved is in a stirfry! We cook some eggs, then add in the veggies, the rice, and the coconut aminos. It’s quick, easy, and delicious!

Lastly, our family loves this curry recipe that I have posted on my blog recently! A friend from church shared the recipe and I tweaked it a bit myself. It is incredibly easy to make, just note that it might take a bit more time to make.

SNACKS

Our kids love these crackers for snacks. Otherwise, a piece of fruit, vegetable, or nuts is a snack option for them!
