On the way back from our honeymoon my husband and I spontaneously picked up two puppies!

We were so excited to be married and start our life together that we couldn’t wait to include two furballs any longer. In case you’re curious their named Brook and Brown after trout (we love fishing here!) They are Border Collie and Australian Heeler mixes.

I’m so excited to be rounding up the series with this post because it’s so practical! Well, they all are (lol) but this especially, as a new wife and puppy mom really helped me get on track.

Let’s be real, puppies are a handful. They may even be worse than children at times but cleaning up after them doesn’t have to be a hard challenge.

Follow these tips below to keep your house clean with puppies and eliminate the stress in your life today!

ESSENTIAL OILS AND PETS

I love my puppies and they feel like my own children some days. They play a huge role in our family and I love that I have found a way to support them with natural products.

I want the best for them, and I am so thankful that I have found Young Living! I make a pet-safe cleaner with essential oils that makes cleaning so easy.

I’ve been using essential oils for years now, supporting my own body and as soon as we had puppies, I started my research.

With all the information on using essential oils around pets, it can be confusing and scary. I hope some of the information I have received directly from Young Living leaders can help you. These tips will you keep your house clean with puppies safely.

Just a quick disclaimer; I am not a vet or a doctor and am not making any claims that these products can heal, treat, or cure any diseases. Also, go to your vet first with concerns.

Essential oils are the best natural cleaning solution. And you can use them around your puppies!

It is important to note that when you start using oils on animals, it is a lot like when you start using them yourself. Pay attention to how your puppy reacts. Go slowly, always dilute the oils so they are not so potent. This means mixing the oils with a carrier oil, like coconut oil.

Dogs have a very strong sense of smell, so we need to be paying attention to how they react and let them guide us in how to use oils around them.

Essential oils can actually be a much safer product for your new puppy because there are dangers of exposure to household chemicals and toxins. The cleaning products from the store can be absorbed by your animal and be potentially harmful.

Alternatively, your puppy can grow big and strong by adding essential oils to their drinking water or food and diffusing them into the air. Do more research on this before acting as your puppy may have an aversion to some smells or oils.

Join my Young Living team today and I’ll walk you through everything in even more detail!

HAVE THE RIGHT CLEANER

Young Living Household Cleaner is the one and the only cleaner you will ever need! And it’s safe to use around your puppies!

When I started using this product, I swear my life was changed.

I put one capful with water in these amber glass bottles I picked up from Amazon. It works as a degreaser, window cleaner, stain remover, and more. I simply spray and wipe with a rag.

To keep the house clean with puppies, I wipe down anything they might have touched or been near every few days. It kills germs and is just as effective as any product in the store, but the bonus is that it is all-natural with no harmful chemicals or toxins.

Here’s my advice on how to acquaint your puppy with Thieves Household Cleaner…

FIRST: start with diffusing Thieves essential oil into the air for a few days. This will get them used to the smell at the easiest level.

SECOND: spray some Thieves Household Cleaner (one capful in a glass bottle with water) in an area your puppies go near. For example, spray and wipe down the legs of your couch they lay around during the day. They will experience it a little stronger.

THIRD: dilute in a bucket of water and scrub a small part of your floor or spray the carpet.

Now that your puppy is more regulated by the smell of Thieves and essential oils, you can begin cleaning.

We have a bucket similar to this one on Amazon that we put two to three capfuls in and fill with hot water. We then scrub the floors with a mop, like this one.

It’s easy, safe, and effective.

HAVE THE RIGHT PRODUCTS

I also swear by some of the pet products we have picked up at Amazon.

If you have more carpet than hardwood floors, then you will also need a good vacuum. This is by far the pet vacuum I’ve heard of (and you can get it on Amazon) to keep your house clean with puppies. It is specific to pet hair too!

And, you can always create a DIY carpet cleaner like this one with essential oils: Young Living DIY Carpet Cleaner

Keeping your house clean catching bugs. What you say?! Yes, your dogs will carry in not just dirt but also bugs in their coat. We use this bug catcher in our house and it does wonders in keeping our house clean with little maintenance at all.

Another idea for you is getting a doggy door. But won’t that make your house ore dirty? That’s what my husband and I thought at first but we found it kept our house much cleaner!

We have an area similar to a sunroom in the back of our house where we installed the doggy door. The dogs stay mostly in that area and therefore, all their dirt stays in the same area. Only one area to clean!

If you have a large area where you can keep your dogs contained, then I suggest this doggy door. We have had no issues and it has been extremely beneficial to us. I would highly recommend this one!

For dogs that lick a lot or seem to be constantly biting, pick up this toothbrush and toothpaste set to keep their mouths, and your house, clean. We also use the Young Living dog chews to keep our pet’s breath smelling good.

HAVE THE RIGHT TRAINING

Our puppies are not allowed in bedrooms, bathrooms, or on any sort of furniture. For me, that is one of the most important aspects to keep your house clean puppies.

First, don’t let them go everywhere in your house. They will ruin the furniture and make cleaning your house a lot more work. Training them from the beginning to respect your items will pay off in the long run.

But, telling you to train your puppies well is easier said than done.

We found success in training our puppies with a lot of praise and avoided using treats. After about five months we moved to use these shock collars for more reinforcement.

These shock collars will help you in training your pups to listen to your command and keep them from making the whole house dirty. The collars have a beep, vibrate, and shock setting and we hardly ever use the shock button because a beep can be just as effective.

KEEP IT SMELLING GOOD

As I talked about at the beginning of this post, I love essential oils because they are a natural solution that actually works!

When you have puppies, the last thing you want is your house smelling like a kennel.

Don’t just mask the smell with chemical air fresheners. By investing in essential oils, you can purify the air in the home naturally.

In your diffuser, add a few drops of essential oils and water and hit start. It’s easy to keep the air in your home clean and keep your puppies safe.

If you are interested in essential oils, I only suggest Young Living. They are the leader in the industry with their Seed to Seal promise. They are the only company I trust to use 100% original plants to extract the oils. You can learn more about it here: Why Young Living

To get started easily, just jump over to this page where I share all about it: HOW TO SIGN-UP

And you don’t just need your house smelling good, but also your dogs! We only use Young Living’s dog products because we know they are safe and effective.

Plus, like I have been saying, we want the best for our dogs and that means going all-natural. No chemicals and toxins on my puppies, please!

We use the Young Living Dog Shampoo to keep our dogs smelling good. Be careful to use only a small amount, no more than a pea-size, on puppies to ensure the smell is not a deterrent to your puppy. We started with just water for their first bath and introduced soap after that to introduce new things slowly.

But, as your vet probably told you, puppies and dogs should not be washed very often. They need the natural oils on their skin and fur to keep them healthy. Only wash your puppy when absolutely necessary.

Overall, you can keep your house clean in a cheap and easy way with Young Living’s products. Essential oils will be life-giving to not only you but your puppies as well.

There is not a one-and-done solution to keep your house clean with puppies. However, by having the right cleaner, the right products, and the right training, you can keep your house smelling fresh and clean.
