It’s important to catch it early so that you can focus on how to prevent mom burnout the right way! Motherhood is a full-time job and as moms, we wear many hats. It can be hard to juggle all of the tasks we need to accomplish throughout the day.
I know the feeling of just needing a break, but unlike a regular 9-5 job, there are no days off. You are always a mom! It’s a beautiful thing and an amazing opportunity but also just plain hard at times, if not all the time.
There are no weekends off, sick days, holiday breaks, or paychecks to show for your work. But, the blessings come in heart-filling intangible ways!
When I do these essential things each day, I am regularly feeding my soul. They prevent mom burnout because they keep my focus on what truly matters, give me energy, and equip me for the job at hand each day!
I honestly couldn’t be a great mom without these things!

Connect With God
Start each day by reading your Bible, praying, and connecting with the God of the universe. Books like these can also be helpful in remembering that the work you do as a mom has eternal value!
This is my number one way to prevent mom burnout because it gives me purpose and fulfillment in life. Without my faith, each day would feel hopeless. Because I have the Lord with me throughout the day I know He will equip me for the work that needs to be done, and to His glory!

Nourish Your Body With Real Food
Start your day with food that is nutritious and filling, such as scrambled eggs and avocado. Don’t eat sugary cereal or drink just plain coffee. Start learning what good nutrition looks like and be intentional about fueling your body, especially in the morning.
When I cut out sugar, caffeine, alcohol, and processed foods from my diet and eat real whole foods instead I have the energy to conquer the day! I find I have more patience, better focus, and stay calm as a mom when I am eating the best food possible.

Build Deep Friendships
It’s difficult to find true, deep, and meaningful friendships as a mom. Sometimes you just feel judged for the decisions you make regarding your child or sometimes you just can’t seem to fit in.
What it takes is intentionality. And while I am starting to sound like a broken record, it’s so true! Invite someone over for a play date, stop by and drop off a cup of coffee, suggest a walk in the park – whatever it is, be the one to be vulnerable and put yourself out there. You never know what may come of it!
If you don’t know where to start at all, start with finding a community at church or a local MOPS group!
-
Have Phone Boundaries
This one is difficult for me, especially in various seasons of motherhood, but I find it so necessary. Schedule times of the day when you won’t have access to your phone. Set up boundaries like no phones in the bedroom, at the dinner table, or during family game night.
-
Spend Time In Nature
I’m so thankful I live on a homestead and have farm animals because it forces me outside at least twice a day, no matter what the weather is! They have to be fed, watered, and the eggs collected. Plus, in the summer the garden needs extra attention.
Being outside truly is a breath of fresh air for us moms! I enjoy stepping outside during my children’s naptime. I know they are safe and I can enjoy the silence and beauty of nature to myself. You can also throw the kids in the stroller or on the bike and stroll the neighborhood.
Outdoor hobbies as a family also make it enjoyable and easy to get outside. You could go on nature walks, hikes, ice skating, swimming, and more! Get creative and make it a focus in this season of motherhood to get outside and prevent mom burnout, even if it is only for a few minutes a day.
