I’ve been living the two under two life for about two months now and in that time, I have found baby products I can’t live without! These are the items for two under two that you need to survive.
After my second daughter was born only 13 and a half months after my first daughter, I had no idea how I would manage both of them. I wasn’t necessarily scared of the change, in fact, I saw it as an adventure!
But, I did know that I needed strategies to make it possible. These past few months with two under two would have been much more difficult, if not impossible, some days if it weren’t for these baby items!
I can’t wait to share these baby items for two under two with you…

1. Wagon
Number one and number two on my list are tied for the most important in my life when it comes to having two under two! They both are so necessary for me to stay on top of my tasks each day.
This wagon is perfect for two children under two – take it from someone that uses it every single day! Not only do I use it when we go to town, but also to walk down to the farm stand each morning and evening to sell our eggs.
My oldest daughter, who isn’t even a year and a half, loves to ride in it. There are straps to keep her buckled in if need be, but often she sits contently and loves to spin around and look at all of her surroundings.
It is also perfect for my newborn because it has a car seat attachment. I can easily wheel around any store with both children in the wagon. It is also great for going on trips to the beach or just a family walk as it fits other belongings too!
I know some people prefer a double stroller, and while I don’t have experience with one, I can say that I would still much prefer a wagon. For me, it is much more versatile and can be used for many more years.

2. Sleep Routine
Our family loves sleep training our children so they can sleep through the night by about 8 or 9 weeks old! Not only does it give our family the sleep we need, but more importantly a daily schedule and rhythm that keeps us on track.
We used the Babywise sleep training techniques for our first daughter, and once again with our newborn. Without a schedule, I know our days would feel hectic and full of disorder.
Implementing a sleep schedule for both our children has helped them know what to expect throughout the day. As our oldest daughter transitioned to a big sister, she still had a consistent schedule. She knew when she slept, ate, and played or read books.
Having boundaries and expectations is vital to enjoying the season of two under two. Make sure you grab a sleep training book like this one as one of your items for two under two!

3. Transitions
When my oldest daughter turned one, we decided to make two, well almost three, key transitions for her. She went from sleeping in a crib in our room to her own bed. She was also weaned from nursing and breast milk.
For our family, these transitions made complete sense. We needed the crib for the new baby arriving in just a month and a half and my breast milk was almost completely dry due to being pregnant with our next child. Unfortunately, tandem nursing was not going to be an option for me.
The third transition was to begin potty training our oldest daughter after she turned one. We had been doing elimination communication part-time but we wanted to take it more seriously and begin putting her on the potty more.
The potty training is still happening after the baby arrived but I’m glad we are working on it. Having diaper items for two under two is quite a bit of time and money, so I’m happy our oldest is using the toiled consistently.
We thought it would be best to make these transitions at the same time and also before the new baby arrived so that our oldest could have our full attention during the changes. I’m so glad we made these decisions.
Consider what transition may be best for your family as you parent two under two!

4. Baby Lounger
This baby lounger has been a life-saver for me. So often I need to set our newborn down to attend to our oldest daughter. She may be getting into something she’s not allowed to have, need help going to the toilet, or be throwing a tantrum.
This lounger is the perfect seat to set our new baby down on to make those moments easier!
I love the shape and design of this item and I know I can use it for all my future babies too! It is one of my favorite items for two under two.

5. Large Diaper Bag
The diaper bag I received for my first daughter was the standard-size backpack you would see in the store. But, once our second daughter arrived I did not have enough room for both of their things!
I had to try to fit two sets of diapers, cloth diapers, changes of clothes, burp rags, wipes, snacks, sippy cups, and more in just a small bag. That was simply not going to work.
I had to upgrade to a larger diaper bag, and honestly, I just wish I had placed a larger one on my baby registry from the beginning! It is one of the items for two under two that you can’t deny you need.

6. Baby Carrier
Having several different baby carriers on hand wherever you go is necessary when you have two under two! Because my babies are so close in age, I can actually still throw the oldest in a carrier if I have to.
My favorite carriers to have on hand are a stretchy fabric like the Solly or a sturdy harness one like the Lille Baby. My daughter gets thrown into these regularly, especially in fussy moments or crowded rooms where I don’t want them wandering or being touched.
Keep one carrier in your house and one in your car, or even get a third to make sure you never forget it at home. Baby carriers truly make a mom of two under two’s life easier!

7. Entertainment
Lastly, you will want some sort of new and exciting entertainment for your oldest when you are nursing or feeding your baby.
I like to have a stack of books on hand that I can pass to her. We also bought some outdoor activities that were new and exciting that didn’t require supervision.
Be creative and consider getting one or two small items that the toddler gets to play with while you are in a nursing session.
