If you have an anniversary coming up around the corner, then you may be frantically searching for the perfect gift once again.
My husband and I live a simple lifestyle and often skip out on gifts for special occasions or holidays to eliminate clutter and wasteful spending; however, my love language is gift giving so sometimes an anniversary gift is just what I need!
If you haven’t heard of the five love languages, I highly suggest grabbing a copy of the book here! Your relationship will improve immediately when you put it into action.
When my husband and I consider anniversary gifts for each other, they have to fit two categories – both practical and romantic. But practical and romantic anniversary gifts are not always easy to come by.
With the saturated marketing world throwing so many different advertisements at us, how can we be sure that the gift we are purchasing for our significant other is both practical and romantic? Is it an impossible combination to find?
It may seem difficult, or daunting, but I have found five solutions that will likely fit your needs! Let’s check them out…

What To Consider When Purchasing Anniversary Gifts For Him And Her
So far I have mentioned The Five Love Languages as a resource to consider before purchasing anniversary gifts for him and her. It is a wonderful tool to understanding how your significant other feels most loved.
And if giving and receiving gifts is one of their top love languages, then be sure to consider this list of practical and romantic anniversary gifts right away!
But there are a few other things to consider before making an anniversary gift purchase.
First, don’t make the anniversary gift simply romantic.
Yes, there is a time for romantic gifts with no practical value. I think they can certainly be enjoyed. For example, when my husband was pursuing me during our dating and engagement season (p.s. check out our love story here!) I didn’t mind a romantic gift one bit. I was head over heels in love with him and practicality never crossed my mind!
But now that we are married, my husband knows me better than anyone else in the world. He shows me deep, intentional love when he purchases me a gift that is practical because it says “I know this is something you have been needing/wanting, and you deserve it!” it shows me he took the time to think of me and my desires. It’s now a richer and deeper expression of love.
You see, my husband and I sold everything and moved to our 80-acre homestead. We dropped everything to pursue an old-fashioned and simple life. We don’t waste our money on frivolous things. And we love to enjoy the simple things in life.

That means everything we purchase is intentional and practical. It’s saved us so much money and made our life so much simpler. Practical and romantic anniversary gifts help us keep our minimal lifestyle.
Second, don’t make the anniversary gift simply practical.
As much as I have just focused on keeping those gifts practical, you do also want to be romantic.
Why? Because you want to keep the love alive too!
I loved the infatuation stage my husband and I experienced when we were dating. But now I love that marriage and our daughter has forced us to make love even more intentional. But, that doesn’t mean we want the romantic side of our love to die.
Being too practical could mean that you miss the chance to express your love romantically. Don’t forget that to love intentionally, you still have to pursue the romantic love that began your relationship in the first place, and that can be fun!
Practical And Romantic Anniversary Gifts For Him and Her
Flowers often come to mind immediately when you think of anniversary gifts. And I would argue that they are both practical and romantic! However, that might not be true for everyone. Be sure it is something the love of your life will enjoy before choosing this anniversary gift.
I love receiving flowers as gifts and find them very practical to my homemaking. They make our home warm, cheery, and bright! And even when they are nearing the end of their life, I can repurpose them in so many ways.
Some repurposed ideas include drying out the flowers and creating a wall hanging from them. Or placing the dried petals in an organza bag and sticking it in my dresser drawer for a continuous fresh aroma. I even press the petals in between book pages for fun DIY projects.
One of our favorite places to order flowers from is FromYouFlowers.com. The selection is incredible, and they have fast shipping straight to your door! The way they present their flowers makes the gift feel so sweet and romantic.
This is one of the practical and romantic anniversary gifts I know will be a hit!
There is nothing that says, “I know you!” like a personalized gift. Think of an inside joke you have with your significant other and get them something they have been needing but add on that fun personalized twist!

Want to make life easier for the love of your life? A meal subscription will save them so much time, they will be sure to enjoy spending the extra time with you!
There are so many different ways you could use the anniversary gift of a meal subscription box. For example, create a date night in once a week for the two of you, or enjoy a new hobby of cooking together without the hassle of grocery shopping and meal prep. You could even cook the meals and go on adventure days, like hikes, picnics, and time exploring new cities.
One of the most important things to consider when picking out a meal subscription box is the ingredients. Splendid Spoon has plans designed to kick start healthy habits at breakfast and lunch, so you can reach your health goals. Each meal contains the freshest plant-based, gluten-free, and GMO-free ingredients — and nothing else.
Enjoy more time together with a subscription to Splendid Spoon as an anniversary gift.
One way to make any day better is with a better night’s sleep! Time to upgrade your mattress? When you consider everything you do in bed, there is nothing more practical and romantic!
An amazing website to purchase a new mattress from is Yaasa Studios. They are a global brand that focuses on quality hybrid mattresses. They come in soft or firm options, delivering the ultimate in support, comfort, and breathability.
Yaasa also offers free, convenient shipping in 2-3 business days. You can receive a 100-night trial, 10-year limited warranty, and free returns. Check out their website here for more details.
I’m considering making this purchase on our next anniversary. I know my husband would love the practicality of it along with the romantic moments to follow.
The last of the practical and romantic anniversary gifts to consider is new jewelry, for both men and women alike! However, it all depends on where you purchase the jewelry from.
Cheap jewelry screams “last-minute anniversary gift.” It also shows the lack of time and attention to making the gift special.
In order for this anniversary gift to work, be sure that the jewelry is top-notch and speaks to your significant other’s style!
If you are looking for a great jewelry store option online, Gemvara is a great place to start! They are the world’s largest selection of fine gemstone jewelry and allow you to customize one-of-a-kind pieces. At Gemvara, every piece is made to order – every time.

Such a great idea to find the balance between gifts that are both romantic and practical! My husband and I rarely exchange gifts, but when we do I always make sure it’s something we will really use. I need to add a little bit more romance into my gift giving!
Thanks Kait – hope this helps you in the future!
We like to put money towards some sort of travel or trip normally, still hoping we can do that this September if we are vaccinated! It will be 10 years for us. I usually still get my husband and I little something though, maybe in line with the traditional yearly anniversary gifts – so I’m going to try and come up with something creative with tin!
Travel is a great idea! I’m all for experiences as gifts as well (:
Gifts aren’t either of our primary love languages. We’ve decided to take more trips together in place of gifts; however, I would never turn down flowers or jewelry. 🙂
Love it!
Such great gift ideas, Kelsey! I also love The 5 Love Languages; it’s such a great book! I like how you prioritized practical and romantic in your post. They are both so important when it comes to gift-giving (and gift-keeping since you’ll want it for a long time after!).
Thanks so much Sarah!
Lately we’ve been doing practical gifts too. A few years ago we bought a vacuum for our anniversary 😆
Yes, love it!
Ahh yes! We live by the love languages book. We actually just downloaded the “Love Nudge” app by them too for some extra ideas! I love the practicality aspect of this! A new mattress sounds like the perfect gift in my personal opinion 😉
I haven’t heard of the app yet! I will have to check it out.
