March was an incredible month because we welcomed our second daughter into the world! Spring also finally arrived, and we experienced our first temperatures above freezing since 2021!
Here’s a quick summary of the month for you…

The Birth of Floralee Rae
We had been praying for and planning a home birth for our baby and the Lord provided for our dreams and more! Floralee Rae was born on March 13 at 2:17 pm at home and we could not be more overjoyed!
I can’t share all the details here, but I am publishing her birth story. It will go live on the blog on April 16th so check back then!
I am recovering well but am taking most of the month off so that I can bond with Floralee and heal properly. Floralee is eating away and growing so quickly. Praise be to God that there are no complications so far!
Scooping Rabbit Manure
Now that spring is here, there have been several gardeners in the area that have requested rabbit manure. We sell bags of manure for $10 each to locals and online through our Etsy shop.
The manure has been piling up all winter so now Landon has been sifting it to get some of the hay out and bagging it up. We’ve had a few people purchase some already, which has been a big blessing!
Keeping Apple Tree Bases Insulated
Last year we had a poor apple harvest…if you could call it a harvest at all! That is because we had an early melt and then snow again, so the apple trees blossomed too early and the buds froze and died before they could fruit.
This year, we are helping our apple trees stay in dormancy as long as possible by piling snow up on the bases of the trees. Let’s see if it works!
Harvesting Venison
We are finally butchering and harvesting the rest of our deer that have been hanging, frozen solid, for most of the winter! It’s time to fill the freezer with meat again, which is very exciting!
Acquiring Deep Freezers
We came across someone on Facebook Marketplace that was giving away two extremely large deep freezers that were in perfectly good condition, just extremely dirty!
Landon went over to his house with a friend and carried them from his basement and brought them to our place. It was a huge blessing because we were just wondering where we were going to put all our meat chickens that we raise this summer.
We now have a small deep freezer, which we are giving to our friends; a standing freezer, which holds all our frozen eggs, rabbit, and venison; and the two we just acquired, which will be more than enough to preserve our garden produce and meat chickens come this summer and fall.
See you next month on the homestead!
