We did it! We completed our house build requirements! This past month has been a complete blur with how busy and stressful it was, but by a miracle, through Christ, Landon passed all his final inspections, received our occupancy permit, and got the appraisal before the bank’s one-year deadline!
He spent the whole month pulling all-nighters, barely sleeping, and working till he collapsed. Family and friends were still there to assist us the entire month, and at the last minute, he completed it all just in time. Lots of tears and emotions followed it.
I was just in survival mode as well. That meant holding the fort down in the meantime, providing the food, and taking care of the kids as a single parent. It was overwhelming and stressful for both of us, but now that we’ve done it, we can celebrate! More on when we will move in below…

Finishing The Details
Before we can officially move into the new house there is still quite a bit to do. We don’t want to live in construction and there is no rush to move in, so once these things are complete in about a month or two, then we will move in before winter.
Things like caulking inside and outside, adding all the trim, building shelves and cabinets, building beds and wardrobes, purchasing all the small things, etc. still need to be done. The basement is also unfinished, but that will come with time.
The plan is to slowly work on the basement after we move in over the next year. Once it is complete, the kids will move their bedroom downstairs and have a bathroom to themselves and an area to play.
Finally Enjoying Summer
After Landon passed all his inspections and beat the deadline, he took a week off to recover. We went to dinner to celebrate, finally took the boat on the lake, went swimming and fishing, got ice cream, spent some quality time with Daddy, and just rested as a family again.
It was so needed now before Landon jumped back into making the house move-in ready.
Animal Update
Our meat chickens have moved out to pasture, our flock of baby hens is almost laying, and our baby rabbits moved into their grow-out pen. Next month we will be butchering the meat chickens, older rabbits, and older hens to put into the freezer.
Harvesting Garlic & Picking Berries
The only big crop in the garden this year is the garlic I planted last fall. I pulled it out of the bed surrounded by grass and weeds and was surprised by a decent-sized harvest! I will have the seed and replant a bigger crop this fall for next year and save the rest for our winter meals.
I also spent quite a few mornings going to the neighbor’s U-pick strawberry field and stocking up on strawberries for the freezer! We also have wild raspberries on our land and the kids have enjoyed eating those fresh almost every morning lately. Next month will be picking blueberries in a different neighbor’s plot to keep filling the freezer!
Making Dandelion Balm
Now that my dandelion leaves that I freeze-dried and put in oil were done saturating, I added beeswax and made dandelion balm to have on hand. It’s basically like having a wonderful lotion or lip balm with medicinal benefits!
Things are continuing to stay very busy this summer for us but we are blown away by how much God has taught us through this house-build process. He has been so good and all the glory goes back to Him!
