On January 31st we welcomed our daughter Harmony into the world! That led us into February…the month of becoming new parents and navigating the waters!
It was also the month that we pack up the remainder of our belongings and headed to our homestead for good! It was the best feeling knowing that all our hard work and waiting was finally coming to fruition.
I hope you’ll enjoy this month’s update…

Bringing Harmony Home
If you haven’t read Harmony’s birth story yet, you can read it here. In summary, the delivery ended in a c-section. I am recovering well over this last month and Harmony entered the world as healthy as could be.
We didn’t want to stay in the hospital forever so we worked hard at getting discharged as soon as possible. She was born Sunday morning and Monday night we drove home. We loved being able to spend that night as a new family at home.
When we brought Harmony home the pups weren’t sure what to make of her! They were breaking all the rules because they were so curious. They definitely wanted to play with her, but we just let them smell her scent. Throughout the month they got used to her and I think they love having her as part of the family…even though it means they don’t get as much attention as before.
Family and Friends Visiting
We had so many friends and family visit us and bless us with gifts and food it was amazing! Thank you to all that came, we are so thankful! It was also bittersweet because we had to say goodbye to so many people we love seeing regularly.
We will just have to try to visit whenever we can and Facetime when we can’t.
Check-Ups
Harmony and I both had check-ups to make sure we were recovering well from labor and delivery. Harmony has been breastfeeding wonderfully. We’ve never had a problem and are so thankful it has been such an easy process for us.
We’ve also been working on getting her on a sleep schedule. I know this is controversial, but we are giving it a try to see if it is the best solution for our family! She has been a good sleeper at night so far, getting three or four-hour chunks in at a time.
We also plan on cloth diapering and doing elimination communication with her (early potty training) but with the move, we found it best to wait until next month. Plus, we were gifted a few packs of disposable diapers, so we decided to use those up first. We don’t have a washer and dryer set up yet at our homestead so we are thankful for the disposable diapers for the time being.
My incision is healing well and my mobility slowly came back over the course of the month. The first few weeks were very difficult as it was hard to sit up in bed when I had to nurse her at night. My bleeding subsided by the end of the month but I’m still struggling with pooping and am taking a stool softener to make it bearable.
Dedication
A couple of weeks after Harmony was born, we dedicated her at church. We wanted to do it on our last Sunday with our church family. It was a special day, and we were able to say bye to all our friends at the same time.
We are committed to raising Harmony in the Bible and pray for her salvation daily!
Moving Up North!
The last week of February we signed the papers to sell our house, packed up the car, and headed home! We love being on our homestead but it still doesn’t feel real.
It was a bit overwhelming the first day moving in. Our stuff was everywhere, nothing was organized, and now we were dealing with smaller space in the tiny house. We had to get creative and figure out new storage solutions fast.
Landon started building extra shelves and cabinets where we needed them and we purchased more shelving for the barn. We are storing our extra belongings in bins out in the barn but it is currently a mess. I can’t wait till the shelving arrives so we can get it organized.
He also updated an old shack into the most beautiful chicken coop. He came up a few days earlier with his dad and my dad to move the animals (they all survived!) and finish some last-minute projects.
When they came, our small water heater had broke because of freezing temperatures. Luckily, we had a larger water heater we were installing that weekend anyways, but there was still some standing water in the house. The three of them were able to get it cleaned up and we’ll keep checking it for mold. That will likely be another update we have to make this summer.
On our first day on the homestead, we also took a snowshoe hike around our property. I can’t believe how beautiful it is up here and that this land is really ours! We are so thankful to be up here.
Here’s to the many more adventures ahead for us!
