April was a fun month – some days in the ’60s and some days waking up to snow on the ground! We were so busy (what’s new lol) and got so much done! And, started making a profit off of our homestead. Plus, God blessed us with some amazing new friends and community. We also had a bald eagle perched in our front yard for a bit too!
I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
Don’t forget to Pin this image for later!
Mouse In The House
The beginning of the month started with us waking up one morning and finding mouse poop on our dishes in the cupboard…gross!
We could hear them in the walls every once in a while but we had never noticed one making it in the house. We’ve also caught a few in our trap in the barn.
Well, the next night we put a sticky pad in the cupboard. Just as we were falling asleep we heard the mouse get stuck. We had caught it! And so far no more mice have been around or made it in the tiny house. Success!
Hope Fellowship And New Friends
After visiting quite a few churches, we have found a new church that we are loving called Hope Fellowship. And, God is so good! We had been praying for community since we moved to a brand new area and on our first Sunday, we met three other couples our age with children.
We have joined their small group and are so thankful that we can start growing a friendship with them!
We’ve also met quite a few other people in the area by selling our rabbits and rabbit manure on Craigslist. I (Kelsey) met another mom in the area that also homesteads and have enjoyed spending time with her!
She also runs a bible study with her sister that I am so thankful I can attend and expand our community! Plus, I attend MOPS and am making more friends there too!
Parents Visiting
Easter weekend my parents came and visited. It was the first time my mom had been on our land and the first time my dad saw it after we moved in. They loved seeing everything we have accomplished and learning more about our future goals!
We took them all over the Keweenaw Peninsula, walked the trail on our land, shot some guns, and most of all, spent time spoiling Harmony!
Rabbits Give Birth & Selling Rabbits and Rabbit Poop
We’ve made so much money this month (a few hundred dollars!) from selling our rabbits and rabbit manure. Who knew there was such a demand?! We’re thinking of expanding our rabbitry even further.
We also have two new litters of baby rabbits from our two female breeders – Lavender and Lemon. They are just the cutest! 10 new babies in total!
Weekend In Chicago
We traveled to Chicago one weekend to celebrate my friend Jacey! It was so fun being a part of her bachelorette party (even though Harmony stole all the attention!). I can’t wait to stand up next to her at her wedding in a few months.
But, boy oh boy, did it make us realize how much we hate the city! We couldn’t wait to get back to our land and animals with miles and miles of nature! (And back to where people aren’t so mask crazy!)
Quitting Work
I’m officially done with maternity leave, which means I have officially put in my two weeks notice at work and quit!
Honestly, I am loving being a mom so much. It truly is the best job in the entire world! I am so blessed to have a husband that supports and encourages this decision and works so hard to support our family. I know not everyone has this opportunity and I regularly thank God for this blessing!
Fencing for Chickens
We set up an area for our chickens to “free-range” (it’s a pretty large area!) with our leftover fencing. They love scratching for bugs and can always run back to the more protective fencing around the coop if there was ever a predator.
We did have a bald eagle in the tree above them one day and the chickens slowly walked back to the coop under the bird netting. They were safe and the bald eagle never attacked them.
Plus, it was so cool looking out our front window and seeing a bald eagle just sitting in our trees. So beautiful!
Front Stoop/Mudroom
Landon built a front entryway room for the dogs to sit and for us to put our muddy boots! It is so functional and beautiful. It has both plexiglass and bug-screened windows he built himself, so depending on the season, we can change it to fit our needs!
The dogs have a small dog door going in and out too so they love sitting in the mudroom during the day. And, best of all, the house doesn’t get muddy as it used to during this spring season!
Sewing Apron & Tunic
I bought a sewing machine right before we moved to our tiny house a few months ago. That’s what homesteaders do right, sew all day?!
Well, I have actually quite enjoyed learning and sewed my first apron and tunic! Next, I want to sew a matching mom and daughter outfit because Harmony is getting bigger!
Let me know in the comments below what other sewing projects I should try!
Sheep In Our Future
I want sheep so bad, and Landon is on board, but this year just isn’t the best timing. I met someone that has sheep in the area, and they showed me their setup and would be willing to sell us some lambs when we are ready!
We need to save up money to purchase the fencing for them first and keep focused on our goal of paying off the land first!
Well, there you have it! The April update! Feel free to comment and I’ll see you next month!

How cute are those bunnies! It sounds like you are really starting to settle into your new home and community. The mud room area looks great!
Thanks Kait – we sure are! Lots of hard work but so worth it!
Sounds like a great month for you! This weather has been so wacky in April lol. That’s great that you’ve seen so much success! I’m also glad you got to see your parents and have them check out the place – my parents just visited for the first time in a very long time and it was great to see them.
Yes it was so nice! Aw, that’s amazing so glad!
