Giving gifts is an enjoyable thing, but in our consumeristic and materialistic culture today, people don’t need more things! But we often forget to think of gift ideas that aren’t physical things when shopping around.
What I love about these gift ideas that aren’t physical things is that they work for all occasions! Birthdays, baby showers, anniversaries, Christmas, Mother’s Day, “thank yous”, “just because”, and even random gift exchanges your co-workers might make you participate in!
If you ask people what they want most people want these things instead of more random stuff they won’t touch! But, it just doesn’t always feel the same giving a piece of paper with a picture of the gift as it does wrapping something physical.
We have to get our minds away from thinking that what we can physically touch is a more meaningful gift. It’s truly about what the gift is! Plus, you can get creative on how you gift these “things” that aren’t physical.
Let me share more about them in detail…

Memberships
Most people pay for monthly or yearly memberships. How cool would it be to cover that cost for a family member or friend? Or surprise them with a new membership they have always wanted to try out?
Some examples of memberships include museums, zoos, theaters, amusement parks, and various types of gyms or studios.
If you have a niece, for example, with a birthday coming up, don’t give her more toys she doesn’t need. Instead, gift her a membership to the local children’s museum. It’s truly a gift that keeps giving because she could visit multiple times a month or year! Plus, she’ll probably learn something different each time she goes!

Subscriptions
When I think of subscriptions, I often think of video streaming, monthly bills, or magazines people get in the mail. But this isn’t just magazines, but also books, crafts, online grocery stores, local stores like Costco, and even décor!
Many companies are changing to subscription models because they bring in consistent revenue and keep the customer supplied easily. Even the tea I like to order has a monthly subscription model so I never run out!
Out of the gift ideas that aren’t physical things, I think this one could be the hardest to give because it does take some intentionality. You have to pay attention to what the person really enjoys or consistently needs, but when you find the best subscription for them, it’s a wonderful way to give!

Classes
Lessons in dance, language, sports, art, or music could be the perfect gift to give this year! Classes come for all sorts of things. Especially now in the online space, you can find a class for anything online!
One day I hope to give a knitting class to a good friend. I may even gift myself a quilting class in the future! If there is a certain influencer the person you are gifting to likes, check to see if they are selling an online class on their area of expertise. Most are these days!

Tickets
Musical events, sporting events, different shows or concerts, and even a ticket to the movies are great examples of gift ideas that aren’t physical things.
Tickets are also fun for gift exchanges because you can get creative with how you wrap them. Then, the recipient truly has no idea what is inside! Plus, you get to gift them a unique experience they would not have had otherwise.
Whenever they look back on their memories of that experience, they will remember you! I love that this gift is so thoughtful, especially when you know someone will truly enjoy it.

Experiences
Have you ever been to a climbing gym? Or a ski hill? Maybe you have always wanted to go to an escape room, trampoline park, or maker space studio. These experiences could be a wonderful gift to give to a friend, whether they choose to go alone or with you!
Plus, as a mom, it’s a bonus when these gifts come with free babysitting for my kiddos! My husband and I would be thrilled to be gifted an experience out of the house, as a date, because it rarely happens with young children.
Anyone with young kids or children would truly appreciate the time away to refresh and relax, whatever that looks like for them. Plus, you are usually supporting local small businesses with these kinds of gifts because they are often unique to your area.

Time
Perhaps time is the best gift you can give someone. What does giving your time to them look like? How can you bless this person or show them love through a gift? Some examples may be bringing over a meal to share or inviting them over for a board game night.
I also love the idea of just spending the day shopping together and getting lunch out. Or maybe it is playing a new disc golf course together at the park. You could also travel somewhere to experience a new hike or downtown, depending on your preferences.
Time can be the greatest gift you can give someone. It is one of my favorite gift ideas that aren’t physical things because anyone can give this gift and show true, meaningful love through it! It is all about being intentional and sacrificial.
Which of these gift ideas that aren’t physical things is your favorite? Let me know in the comments below!
