This was the first book on survival and preparedness that I ever read, and I sure do recommend it! It covers everything you could think of when you imagine surviving on your own.
I especially loved that it touched on foraging for edible plants, hunting for wild game, and even what to do when you are injured.
I know it can be intimidating reading these books for preppers because it brings up all the things you want to avoid thinking about. But, avoiding thinking about them does no good. This book will help you act upon the knowledge you learn while reading it!

Learning skills is one of the biggest keys to survival and preparedness.
As a new wife and mom, I began to realize that my family was my responsibility. I had to care for their needs in so many different ways and how I did that, and the skills that I had, made a world of difference.
I started by simply learning how to cook three meals a day from scratch. Then I learned how to properly care for the laundry, how to start a garden, and how to can my own jam. It has certainly been a process, but I am so glad I know these skills and am constantly learning new ones each day!
One of our favorite ways to preserve food for the future is with our freeze dryer! They are a wonderful investment that I believe every household should have.
This book is a wonderful resource to have on your bookshelf as it teaches you all the skills you need to be prepared for whatever may come your way!

Anyone can face a natural disaster at any time. We need to be prepared for everything because you just never know what could happen!
We live in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, but also having grown up at the bottom of the state, we knew that we didn’t have to worry about certain natural disasters like earthquakes, forest fires, and tornadoes. They just weren’t common in our region.
However, just last week a tornado hit the ground in our state and ripped through the town, killing several people and leaving disaster everywhere.
It was a healthy reminder for me to be prepared for the worst and for everything. So while I do prepare for snowstorms, I am now also preparing for everything else. This is one of the books for preppers that is helping me do that!

I remember as a child hearing the story of Aron Ralston, who had to cut his arm off to survive a hiking accident. Now, there is even a movie about his story titled 127 Hours.
In that accident, Aron didn’t have anyone to help him or rescue him. It reminded me that I want to be prepared, and also prepare my children, on what to do if you are in a situation where you need medical attention but are unable to get help.
I am thankful for this book on medical preparedness, and I had to add it to the list because of how useful it could be for everyone and anyone!

What do you do when the power goes out? Do you have a plan or are you scrambling for a flashlight or a candle?
I have to admit that I am still not as prepared as I should be for this situation, as we do lose power quite frequently in the winter months. However, each time the power goes out I am reminded that even something like electricity is not guaranteed.
Our modern conveniences have made us so comfortable. Being uncomfortable forces us to learn more skills and be more prepared. The next time the power goes out, imagine that it might never come back on and that will motivate you to start preparing today!

No one knows how the world will end. As a Christian, I know that Jesus will return, but we will never know the time or the hour that it will occur. We don’t even know the exact details of what will happen.
But, even if you don’t want to think about the end of the world, what about World War Three? It’s not necessarily a matter of if it will happen, but when.
This is one of the books for preppers that is extremely practical when it comes to thinking about these topics. I highly recommend it as you start to create a game plan for your family.

This book caught my attention because it is an aspect of preparedness that often gets overlooked! In fact, I still have yet to look into this more.
Communication is a vital part of our survival as humans. We need to know what is happening in the world to make wise decisions and in extreme circumstances, to stay alive.
This is one of the books for preppers that you do not want to be without!
