Stressful. Intense. Overwhelming. Those words come to mind when I think of this past month. We are dealing with a lot but, our hope remains in Christ! He continually provides for us and is a good Father.
Here’s the details…

House Build Update & Injury
At the beginning of the month, Landon passed his electrical inspection! It was so exciting and encouraging. Then he moved on to making the ceiling boards (jointing and planing the wood he previously milled), filing in the trench, moving his mill, and backfilling to prepare for the deck entrance.
The last thing to do before the HVAC/plumbing inspection was to finish putting the chimney. When Landon was using the tractor that morning and working on this project, part of the tractor chain for the outrigger arms got caught and crushed his foot. We spent the next few days in the ER and doctor’s offices, trying to help him manage the pain.
Now Landon is trying to move around a bit more on crutches while he waits for an MRI. A friend helped him concrete/stucco part of the outside of the ICF basement walls and he mills wood where he can. It has been a very difficult close to the month and slowed down the house build. It only forces us to trust God more with this entire process and lean on Him!
Please keep Landon in your prayers as we hopefully get more answers on what is wrong with his foot next month. We are so grateful for all the friends, neighbors, and church family that have helped us and will continue to do so!
Dandelions
The dandelions came out strong again this spring and we made our annual dandelion jelly before finally cutting all the grass! We may also get around to freeze-drying some and making salve.
Gardening Season Begins
It was so refreshing to get back in the garden and plant some seeds again. After transplanting the onions I started indoors, I started with some greens like spinach, lettuce, and arugula. I also planted some cold-hardy flowers. We’ll see what starts popping up soon. It’s almost time to plant warm-weather crops now!
Breeding Rabbits
At the beginning of the month, I breed all our rabbits, so hopefully we will have some babies at the beginning of June. We also sold a couple from our last litter. (Plus all the baby chicks are still doing great!)
Cleaning Up And Planting Trees
An area near our new house was left a mess by the previous owners. I spent weeks cleaning it up and then Landon dug some roots and trash out with his tractor. Since the land was all torn up, we decided to see if we could plant some fruit trees in the area.
The fruit trees at Tractor Supply were not looking too well so when they said $5 a tree we bought two different cherry trees, a pear tree, and a dogwood. We will see if they make it, otherwise we will have to see about replacing them. But it was fun to at least feel like we could increase the yield on our homestead this year, even if it wasn’t planned!
This month was so busy and I’m sure next month will be too! See you then!
