The warm weather isn’t quite here yet, but it certainly is close! Once we have consistent days above freezing, around the beginning of April, we are going to be hitting the ground running.
This month really feels like our last chance to relax before so many farm chores begin when the snow melts! We don’t mind though; we are ready for it. But, in the meantime, we are going to soak up all the rest we can because this summer is going to be busy!
Don’t forget to Pin this image for later!
Taping For Maple Syrup
We’ve actually decided to not tap for maple syrup this year. We wish we could but it seemed like the best decision for us. Looking at our house build this summer and a baby on the way, it was just going to be too much of an investment, both time and money.
But, we did lots of research and have a great plan in place for tapping next year! Plus, so many of our neighbors tap so we always have access to purchase fresh, local maple syrup from them.
Breeding Rabbits
We bred all our rabbits (6 females with one male) at the beginning of the month and are hoping for a high yield this summer! We always have higher outcomes in the spring and summer months compared to the winter months, so it will help us stay stocked up on our meat supply.
Freeze Dried Eggs
We’ve been getting lots of eggs from our chickens lately as they are all laying now! It’s so nice to have the freeze dryer this year so that we can always preserve the extra super easily. Last year we discovered that we weren’t a fan of the frozen eggs we preserved. But, the freeze-dried eggs rehydrate so well and are super tasty!
Our winter egg share is finishing up and soon we will have our farm stand/egg stand out again!
Northern Lights
We have seen the northern lights a few times since moving up here but this month we had one night that was an incredible show! So many locals have been saying it was the best in years. It was truly breathtaking and I am so thankful to see God’s glory displayed through it!
Thanks for reading! We’ll check back next month for some more spring updates…
