June has been a fun month! We’ve gone on several family outings, and been enjoying the sunshine, and many events happening in the UP this time of year. Plus, we’ve been swimming in our pond too when we need to cool down!
We’ve also been busy on the homestead, as we usually are come summertime…
Don’t forget to Pin this image for later!
Farmer’s Market Begins
The farmer’s market kicked off at the beginning of the month, and has been a hit so far! We’ve been selling out of our eggs and freeze-dried candy. We have the best customers!
Last year I was selling at the Houghton Farmer’s Market, but this year I am a bit closer to home at the Chassell Farmer’s Market! Make sure you follow our Instagram and Facebook pages for daily updates if you are local.
We’ve also been selling the eggs on our farm stand and getting to know more farmers in the area. We love where we live!
Strawberry And Raspberry Plants
Our neighbor and friend gifted us with some strawberry and raspberry starts! We panted them next to our blueberry and elderberry starts and then fenced in the berries to avoid any animals destroying them, although our dogs sure do a good job of guarding it too!
We are so excited to have our own berries in the future to store up and much on over the winter. This year we will be picking lots of blueberries and strawberries from local farms, so stay tuned for next month’s update to hear about that.
Planting More Seeds
I finished planting the rest of my vegetable seeds in the garden and they are just little baby sprouts now. I’ve been watering them every day and I can’t wait to see what produce we have at the end of the summer!
The temperatures have been fluctuating quite a bit around here, from a 37-degree night to a 100-degree day, the plants are struggling a bit but I still expect a bit of a harvest!
Landon’s Mill
Landon’s new mill has finally arrived and he is so excited to start using it! The setup process is taking a bit longer than anticipated though, so hopefully, it is up and running in the next few weeks.
This is going to help us with so many of the projects we have to get done, including building a play set, a dock, and our meat chicken tractor! In fact, the pier/dock on our pond is just about complete!
Incubating Eggs
We incubated eggs for the first time in our new incubator (so we can be more self-sufficient!) and it looks like too of them will hatch! Then we are going to try a few more rounds and see if can’t get a total of about 25 this summer.
Check back next month to hear how the hatch turned out!
Making Natural Toothpaste, Shampoo, Conditioner, and More
I’ve started to make most of our products around the house from scratch. I previously purchased Young Living products, which I love, but I also wanted to learn a new skill of how to make them myself.
Be on the lookout for a blog post soon where I break down all the homemade products and my honest review of each of them!
So far we are loving the homemade toothpaste, laundry soap, and dish soap!
Thanks for reading and see you again next month for more homestead updates!
