We stayed inside most of February as it remained cold and snowy! But a slight warm-up at the end of the month has us itching for spring. We’ve been looking ahead to the few warm summer months on the homestead and trying to prepare as best we can.

Let’s check it out…

Our Homesteading Journey – February 2025 Update

List Of Summer Projects

We sat down as a couple and made a large list of projects we needed to accomplish this year, and of course, the list was far above what we had the time and resources for. But it was helpful listing it all out on an excel sheet with the rough cost, materials needed, and time estimate in order of events.

There is still a lot to finish with the exterior of our new house. Some projects include digging a ditch, moving sand and gravel, milling wood, fixing chicken coops, cleaning and organizing the barn, sealing the outside of the house, covering the septic, chopping and stacking wood for next winter, and much more! Of course all alongside the usual gardening, animal rearing, and preserving.

Some things that will probably have to wait until next year include building a garage, building a mill shed, building a wood shed, fixing our perimeter fencing to raise a beef steer, trail work on the property, building a playground, and more. We also want to get the basement slightly more finished so the kids have their bedrooms and bathroom down there, but we are not sure when that will be a priority just yet.

Collecting More Wood

Since this is the first year heating our new house in winter, we weren’t sure of the exact amount of wood we would need. We had a whole room in our barn ready to go but this month that ran out. Thankfully we still have lots of scrap wood from milling wood for the house. It was just buried in snow and needed to be cut to size, so Landon worked on getting us supplied with more wood and thankfully it was a smooth process!

Sewing Projects

I worked on some sewing projects this month which was fun! I sewed some curtains and also some aprons and bags for my children to play with. Some clothing items needed altering and I even found an old knitting project that I finished up!

Pregnant With Baby #4

We are excited to announce that we are pregnant with our fourth baby who is due in August! After experiencing a miscarriage in the fall, we are especially grateful for this little one and this blessing God has granted us. Please pray for a healthy and safe pregnancy and delivery.

Thanks for reading, and hopefully we’ll be outside accomplishing some of our homesteading goals next month!
