With my due date for our third child being in the middle of the month, the first half of the month was all about getting the homestead in order before the baby’s arrival. Then, after we were joined by our baby we spent the rest of the month recovering and easing back into things.
Here are some more details…

The New Baby Is Here!
Praise the Lord! Our son, Winchester “Chet” Cole Albert came into the world early on the 19th! After a few days of early labor, active labor kicked in and he was in our arms within a few hours. It was an incredible home birth and God blessed us with a beautiful and healthy baby boy!
For more details, you can read the full birth story here!
All The Butchering
Before baby Chet came we were working hard to butcher all our rabbits and meat chickens! One weekend was spent butchering all 40 meat rabbits and putting them in the freezer. The next weekend we focused on butchering our 30 meat chickens and about 20 egg-laying hens from our first flock. Those egg-laying hens were getting too old to carry through another winter so into the freezer they went.
We were then able to transition our new egg-laying flock into the coop from the chicken tractor, replacing those older egg-layers.
It was a lot of work and we were exhausted! But, it is so fulfilling having a freezer stocked, especially before the baby arrived.
House Updates
Some house updates include a completed driveway, a septic area dug and prepped, and getting everything ready and delivered for the foundation to be laid any day now! We also have the “beach” area of our pond complete and the area where we are laying a concrete slab.
Next month we should have the basement complete, and the SIPs walls delivered, along with lots of other supplies. It is coming together, and God is providing! I’m so proud of Landon and how hard he has been working!
Blueberry Picking
Several days every week we’ve been going over to our neighbors and picking blueberries! It was a great way to stay busy before labor kicked in and even now, to get our younger girls out of the house. We are filling up the freezer so we can enjoy all the blueberry treats when winter comes!
Speaking of, despite the garden being neglected most of the month, we are harvesting cucumbers, green beans, and the last of the snap peas, and starting to see some ripe tomatoes!
Check back next month for more updates! And thank you for all the support and prayers during this crazy season of our lives!
