WHAT ARE ESSENTIAL OILS
Before we can start chatting about how to use essential oils each day, we need to make sure we are on the same page when it comes to what essential oils are and how they benefit us.
According to Young Living Essential Oils, they are “. . . aromatic, concentrated plant extracts that are carefully obtained through steam distillation, cold pressing, or resin tapping.” Basically, they are extremely potent because the valuable parts of the plant, flowers, stem, etc. have been retracted through different processes.
They can be so beneficial to us as humans when they are incorporated into everyday life. Essential oils can help support our respiratory system, offer sleep support, increase our energy and so much more. The number of natural benefits we can receive from all the different varieties could be uncountable for many.
But, in order to receive their benefits, we much handle them with care. Let’s see how we can safely use essential oils next!

HOW TO SAFELY USE ESSENTIAL OILS
Because essential oils are so extremely potent, they can have wonderful effects on our bodies when used correctly. However, their potency could also lead to adverse side effects when not handled correctly which we must be aware of as a consumer.
To begin using essential oils safely you have to purchase them from a company with high safety standards.
Did you know that purchasing essential oils from the grocery store or a random online retailer will not contain the same benefits as essential oils formulated by a tried and true safe company?
When I found out that the essential oils from the grocery store had 90% water in them, or didn’t even come from a farm that naturally grew the plants themselves, or that there were no safety standards in place I became worried.
Thankfully I found the Seed To Seal promise that Young Living Essential Oils stands behind for decades.
Young Living lets us know about Seed To Seal directly on their website: “Young Living embraces a rigorous quality control standard to help ensure our products meet strict specifications. Seed to Seal is our set of standards that helps ensure that with every pure essential oil and Young Living product your family uses, you’re enjoying the benefits of our global resources, industry leadership, and over two decades of innovation.”

Check out the video they have on that website too. But let me share something firsthand from one of my leaders in the Young Living Essential Oils business.
“Friends, I encourage you to do your research when it comes to using oils on yourself, your family (including kiddos and pets). If you are like, I don’t have time to call around or search the internet….then check this out.
The results are in.
I called 15 essential oil companies and asked if I could tour their farms to see how essential oils are made.
Here is a list of the company, phone number, and answer.
- NOW essential oils: 888-669-3663, they do not grow their own plants. This either means that their “oils” are made in a lab or they buy plants from random farms.
- Piping Rock Essential Oils: 1-800-544-1925, the representative told me no. She did not give me any explanation.
- Aura Cacia essential oils: 1-844-550-7200, the rep said that they do not grow their own essential oils. She would not give me the names or numbers of the farms where they buy the plants.
- AnimalEO: 320-286-3277, the mailbox was full. 😂
- Mountain Rose Herbs essential oils: 800-879-3337. The rep said I cannot see the farms because their plants are sourced. She would not give me the name or numbers of the farms so I could ask them.
- Edens Garden essential oils: 949-388-1999, the website said to not take the oils internally (Young Living Vitality oils are FDA regulated to take internally). The rep said that she had never received a question like that before and asked to place me on hold. She returned to tell me that they do not own any of their own farms and that I cannot calls those farms.
- One Pure essential oils: only available by email. They did not respond to my message.
- Healing Solutions essential oils: 1-800-819-4098, the rep had to place me on hold. He returned to say that I cannot see the farms. He said that the company is not equipped for face-to-face consultations.
- Gurunanda essential oils: 866-421-0309, the rep told me that they source their oils and that I cannot see the farms.
- Plant Therapy essential oils: 800-917-6577, the rep told me that they do not own their own farms and I would not be able to take a tour to see the plants or oils be made.
- Rocky Mountain essential oils: 1-866-493-8159, the rep said that they do not own their own farms. I quoted, “We do not have any direct correlation with the farms, so it would be impossible for us to set anything up.”
- doTERRA essential oils: 1-800-411-8151, the rep had to place me on hold. He said that I can only come on tours that are offered Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 10:30, 12:30, and 2:30. I told him that did not work with my schedule, and he was not sure how to respond.
- Jade Bloom essential oils: 1-844-787-3645, after listening to a long message, they do not take phone calls. I emailed and asked to see the farms. They have not returned my email.
- Melaleuca essential oils: 208-522-0700, Mindy Buda actually made this phone call 🖤 she said that the rep told her that there are no farms for Mindy to tour. The rep then said she doesn’t know where the farms are and cannot give any other information.
- Young Living Essential Oils: 1-800-371-3515, I called and pretended to be someone who is interested in the oils but not yet a member. I was directed to the Visitor’s Center (1-800-371-0819). I was told that I do not need a tour guide or anyone with me while I tour the farms. The farms are open M-F 8am-6pm, Saturday 9-5, and closed on Sunday. She said I can also tour the distilleries where the plants are made into oils.
I feel like these results speak for themselves. I was very emotional after making all of these phone calls and getting answers.
Why do some companies not know where their farms are?
Why wouldn’t they give me a phone number?
Why do some companies not have anything to do with how their plants are grown?
Why was I given an answer of “no?”
Why can’t I ingest something that I made from plants?
Why do some oil companies make their oils in labs and not from plants?
Why can I only visit a farm WITH a tour guide?
Why can’t I go by myself?
Why did every company claim to “set the standard” and have the “highest quality oils available,” but they had no part in farming the plants?
Why don’t the employees know where or how the product is made?
How can you sell something to someone knowing they are going to put it on themselves/their kids and not know anything about it?

Some other quick safety tips: some oils, like citrus oils, are not meant to be used in direct sunlight; use essential oils in glassware, not plastic as they can break down the plastic over time; and always dilute essential oils with a carrier oil, especially with pets and babies.
Don’t forget to save this for later!

THREE WAYS TO START TO EASILY INCORPORATE ESSENTIAL OILS
Now that you are all set with the best essential oils on the plant be sure to start using them right away! I have heard of too many people that are crippled with where to start when they receive their starter kit that the oils just end up staying in the box.
Open up that box, and let’s start using those essential oils today! It’s simple. There are three basic ways to easily incorporate essential oils into your life.
The first way is topically or place the oils directly on your skin with a carrier oil (such as olive oil, coconut oil, or Young Living’s V6 oil).
The second way is aromatherapy. You may have this word thrown around before. Basically, it means breathing in essential oils. The most common way is to use an essential oil diffuser.
Thirdly, you can take essential oils internally. This could be adding them to a dish you are eating or tea you are drinking! Through consumption, you can easily incorporate essential oils! The white labels or vitality oils by Young Living have been approved as safe by the FDA for internal use.

Depending on the oil you are using, you may find that you enjoy using one way over the other. For example, you may enjoy diffusing Cedarwood essential oil before bed for sleep support, but Lavender you enjoy apply directly to your chest to help with relaxation.
Some of the joy and fun of using essential oils come from experimenting. Try oils in different ways and different areas of your life to see what works best for you and your family. Just don’t forget to always follow the safety guidelines.
But I’m sure you need some ideas to get you started. So, let’s explore ways that you can use essential oils in each area of your life – whether topically, aromatically, or internally.
BATHROOM
Essential oils offer fantastic skin support. That’s why I love making some fun DIY facial products with my favorite essential oils.
Here are some of my favorite roller bottles to use! I can usually find the perfect combinations to make in all our team groups (which you get automatically added to when you sign up with my link above!)
The bathroom is also a wonderful place to keep a homemade bottle of soap and a diffuser when things get a bit smelly.
When you are getting ready in the morning, put a couple of drops of essential oils on your hands and then rub them through your hair. Your hair will naturally diffuse the oils around you throughout the day.
KITCHEN
The kitchen is filled with my Thieves products! Check out this link to learn more about this amazing natural essential oil blend.
I use these spray bottles with one capful of Thieves Household Cleaner and the rest filled with water to clean every surface. I also keep a diffuser in the kitchen and a small glass jar filled with my vitality oils. That way, when a recipe calls for spice, I can grab my essential oils for seasoning instead.
I also easily incorporate essential oils by drinking Ningxia, another amazing Young Living product which you can read about here, each morning.
BEDROOM
In the bedroom, there is nothing like creating the perfect environment. That means a diffuser is absolutely necessary. The Aria is my favorite one for the bedroom because it plays music, has multiple light settings, and diffuses beautifully.
I also love to make DIY linen sprays to keep the bed sheets fresh and comfortable. Again, you can find these all easily in our team resources when you join us by signing up for the Premium Starter Kit today!
LIVING ROOM
Ok, I feel like I mention a diffuser for each room, but I love having one in the living room as well. It makes this communal room feel homier and more relaxing.
This is also a wonderful room to keep your display of oils, either on the way or a fun antique pedestal. It not only makes them easy to access but also the cutest home décor element that is unique and functional.
Be sure to also add a few drops of your vitality oils into your cup of tea when you sit down with a good book. Or add a few drops to your popcorn on the family movie or game nights.
Lastly, don’t forget to keep oils in your car, purse, and to-go bags so you never miss out on having them readily available to you.
Well, there you have it. My guide on how to easily incorporate essential oils into your life and your home! What did you think? Have you added essential oils to each area of your life yet?
