Your twenties are the perfect time to get these habits implemented and your health in check.
The Ultimate Guide To #Adulting
Because #ADULTING.
Do you feel in the dark? I know I did after I graduated college! Here's everything you need to know to start your SUCCESSFUL adult life!
Here are my quick ways to be healthy:
Drink Enough Water
The best way to know if you are getting enough water is to make sure you are drinking half your body weight in ounces of water each day. So for example, if you are 140 lbs. then you will want to drink 70 ounces each day.
Not drinking enough water can have a great effect on your health. I tend to eat more when I don’t have enough water when I really should be drinking. I also tend to feel more sluggish and lack energy.
Easy solution: carry a water bottle with you wherever you go. Invest in a great water bottle like this one to make sure you can add essential oils to your water as well (because it’s made out of glass!)
But more on essential oils in a little bit…
Quit Pop/Soda
Pop (sorry, from the Midwest here) is the one thing of I know of that has zero benefits to your body. Other crappy food choices could still contain some calcium, fiber, or healthy fats, but pop has none of those.
This sugary drink only hurts your body. Because there are no beneficial ingredients to pop I suggest eliminating it completely from your diet.
Sure once in a while pop can be nice to add to a punch or another adult beverage, but for the most part, eliminate pop completely. The best thing you can do for yourself is to mix a fruit drink in with your water if you are craving something sweet to drink.
But all in all, just drink water.
Quit Alcohol
Alcohol is another category that has very little benefit for our bodies. It is continually known to mess with our hormones, sleep patterns, and gut issues, and can lead to poor food decisions.
Alcohol can bring a lot of consequences to your health. If you are ready to deal with those consequences then drink as much as you’d like. But, if you are ready to get your health on track then this is a simple item to cut out.
It is a quick way to be healthy today.
Consider A Diet Cleanse
When I am thinking about getting healthy I tend to go towards a diet. While a lot of people hate this advice from the cycle they can see themselves going through, get healthy during the diet and quit to go back right back where they started, to diet again, etc. I go into a diet with the right mindset.
Some of my favorites are Whole 30 and Keto Diet. I love that they cleanse my body and basically reset it so that it goes back to its most healthy state. While they are just diets and not sustainable to eat that way our whole lives, they are a great way to cleanse your body.
This is my favorite anti-diet book as well if you’re looking to change things up!
Use Essential Oils
Essential oils are my most convenient way to stay healthy. I am a huge fan and consider Young Living essential oils the best ones on the market.
The vitality line is easy to add to your water or food while cooking. Diffusing your oils in a diffuser is also a significantly easy way to increase your body’s overall wellness.

Some of my favorite essential oils include lemon vitality, orange vitality, and grapefruit vitality, which I regularly add to my water. I also love oils for sleep support, hormone support, and energy support.

Limit Screen Time
Why aren’t you getting out more and moving? Probably because you’re looking at your screens too much. It’s so easy to get sucked into the world of social media.
Put your phone down. (After you read this post, that is). Not only is it healthy for your mind to see less of what other people are doing but it is also healthier to move around when you put your screen down.
You will also find yourself enjoying the world around you more and making connections outside of the digital world. There are apps now and software that lets you monitor your screen time, making it even easier to know when you have reached your limit.
Go outside, explore, and take time to enjoy the outdoors.

Walk Daily
If you have a dog, then this should come easy. I hope that you would take the time to give both your dog and yourself the ability to move around. But if you don’t, find a friend who you can walk with every day.
I know this is something I wasn’t wanting to do at first in my 20s because that seemed like something older women did, like my mom.
However, walking is for everyone. If you set a time every morning to walk, it will help you stay active and burn some calories. I have a desk job, and so this is so important for me.
Moving around is such a quick way to be healthy.
Eat Fab Four Smoothies
Kelly LeVeque has an awesome book called Body Love that I fell in love with. She talks about getting the FAB Four into every meal you eat – fiber, fat, greens, and protein.
I make one of her FAB Four smoothies every morning and it keeps me full all the way to lunch. They give me all the beneficial ingredients my body needs to get through the day. I highly recommend them and be sure to read Kelly’s book to really understand what FAB Four means.

Take the Stairs
Park farther away. Take the stairs. Walk on the treadmill during your lunch break. It’s the little things like this that are quick ways to be healthy.
And going off of that here is the top way I save money and live healthily (I really do think it is key that everyone needs to do)…
Bring Your Lunch To Work
Pack your lunch every night. Buying lunch at work is more expensive than packing it at home. It is also a way you can eat healthier ingredients.
Veggies and hummus, homemade soup, and leftovers from the night before – these are all great quick ways to be healthy by bringing your lunch to work.
This may be a mindset change that you need to make and it may take time to get used to, so add extra reminders on your phone and keep your lunch bag out where you can see it so you don’t forget to pack it and bring it to work each day.
Before you know it, packing your lunch will be a habit.
Avoid Snacking
Snacking is a great way to add calories that you don’t need. It is also when we usually turn to processed foods or items will little nutritional value.
I quit snacking about a year ago and have loved it. I eat filling meals, allowing my body to process food at once and settle down afterward. When we snack, it’s easier for our body to go through sugar highs and lows.
Snacking could also include your morning latte. Cut back on sugary items that you consume between meals and you’ll be saving calories. Read Kelly’s book for more research on why snacking isn’t the answer.
Read Food Labels
When you are about to purchase a packaged item from the store read the label. It is a super quick way to be healthy and it takes just a couple of seconds.
The rule of thumb is if you don’t know how to pronounce the ingredient then it’s probably not great for you. Look for a healthier option instead.
This might take some initial work as you research the best brands to buy, but after you know what you like as a healthier alternative then you can trust that the ingredients haven’t changed since the last time you purchased it.
Stand Instead of Sit
If you are offered a standing desk at work, then take it. Stand when you can choose to. Standing burns more calories than sitting and is so much better than your posture.
Bike Instead of Drive
Sometimes this isn’t possible, especially in the winter if they are brutal like the Midwest ones I’m used to. However, biking can help you burn more calories and feel more energized during the day.
A great habit to pick up and a quick way to be healthy is to invest in a great bike. Bike every night in the summer or use a mobile bike at a gym. Either way, get biking!

Do you feel in the dark? I know I did after I graduated college! Here's everything you need to know to start your SUCCESSFUL adult life!
Set A Goal With A Reward
Whenever I want to make more positive and healthier changes in my life, I need to set a goal. If I don’t have a goal then I won’t be able to stay motivated.
Know yourself. If you can change without motivation, that’s awesome. But if you need some sort of motivation to get healthy, make a bet with a friend to not eat sugar for a month or you owe them $50, set a goal to walk every day for a month straight with a reward at the end, or sign-up for a race and work hard towards it.
Setting a goal will allow you to work towards something, and it is a quick way to be healthy as you work towards it.
Get a Workout Buddy
Find someone that will help you stay on track with your goals. You’re likely not the only person out there looking to lose a few pounds or be healthier overall. Mention that you’ve bought a gym membership in conversation and see if anyone else has one too.
Then you can suggest going together or signing up for a class together. It will give you someone to talk to about it, hold you accountable, and just make it overall a lot more fun.
So look around for a friend with a common interest and invite them to join you on the journey.
Join a Pick-Up League
If you played sports in college as I did then you may be wondering what’s next. It was depressing not having a team to be with all the time after graduation and fun ways to stay in shape through playing sports.
After college is the perfect time to join an adult pick-up league. It is a quick way to stay healthy and fit and keeps things fun too.
Look at leagues in your local YMCA or town’s recreation facility. You can also see if there are any connections with other alumni from your school that may know of any teams to join.

Download Healthy Apps
Some of my favorite health apps are Head Space (meditation), Garmin (running), and the Health app (steps). These can help you keep on top of your fitness and see if you are improving.
Use your apps to your advantage but don’t rely on them either. Apps can be a quick way to be healthy in your 20s but are not necessary either.
Meditate Every Morning
One of the best things you can do for your health is to take the time in the morning to meditate and be quiet. Stress can often be a cause of weight gain, so take the time to sit alone and get lost in your thoughts.
This means turning off all noise and sometimes the lights and just sitting in silence. You’ll never believe what you can learn about yourself when meditating is part of your daily routine.
I use the quiet tie each morning to study the Bible and pray. My faith is a huge part of who I am and I love being able to take that self-care time for myself every day and recover from whatever stress I am facing.

Go To Sleep by 10 PM Every Night
Depending on your schedule, this might not be possible for you; however, it is so important to get sleep before midnight every night to allow your body the time it needs to recover and get a good night’s sleep.
If you can’t get to bed before midnight still make it a priority to get at least eight hours of sleep each night. Just like drinking water, eight hours of sleep is essential to your health and overall wellness.
Buy Vegetables
Last but not least, buy more vegetables than processed foods when you are at the grocery store. I make it a priority to walk around the edge of the store, getting produce and meat before going down any of the aisles.
By filling up my cart with vegetables first I am able to have a visual of what else I need to buy and how much money I am spending already.
So there you have it, 21 quick ways to be healthy in your 20’s. Which of these is your favorite to implement into your healthy lifestyle?

I love these tips! My husband and I are both trying to be healthier so this post came at the perfect time! I’ll definitely be reading that book and I’m going to start buying more veggies!
Super cool Taylor, thanks for sharing!
I actually do a ton of these already, so I’m pretty proud of myself! I don’t think I’d ever be able to fully quit alcohol because I really enjoy making cocktails and experimenting with new drinks, but I participated in Dry January, and really enjoyed how I felt, so I know I’ll be limiting my intake from here on out!
I haven’t heard of Dry January, but that’s really cool!
Great list I will forward this over to my oldest child whom is 20
Cool Kelly!
That’s a lot of good advice! The best things I’ve done is drinking a lot of water and planning food ahead of time so I don’t make bad choices. I also run regularly but find that even if I go for a short walk on the days I’m not running I feel better.
I agree, getting active can be the best medicine sometimes (:
These are great tips to stay (or get) healthy at any age! I need to implement more of them.
I hope they help you, Beth! Thanks for commenting!
