But, I had to work at finding my own variety because we live in a tiny house where don’t have an oven. On top of that, we have an oversupply of fresh salmon.

My husband is an avid fisherman, and he loves that this hobby of his provides food for our family. He annually catches the salmon run in Kenosha, Wisconsin when they come into the river from Lake Michigan. Some of my favorite memories are of us catching fish together!

We have two border collie mixes, a boy and a girl, from the same litter. They are named Brook and Brown after trout! They love going fishing with us and eating the salmon scraps.

With our oversupply of fish this year, (the deep freezer is stocked full) we wanted to find a way to make nutritious meals with the salmon. Because we don’t have an over, the instant pot and crockpot have become my new best friends.

After a bit of trial and error, I found the perfect way to dump all the ingredients into the instant pot and have food that lasts us about a week.

Of course, store-bought salmon will work as well. And, all fish is wonderful for your pup’s diet as it is full of nutrients, vitamins, and omegas.

I never thought about making homemade food for my dogs! They have always eaten food from the store, but this could be a fun recipe for a special treat. I can’t believe you don’t have an oven! I feel like I couldn’t live without mine.

You are welcome! Unfortunately, I haven’t tried it in the slow cooker setting yet. I would start with experimenting at 8 hours on a low setting. Let me know if you have success!

Hello, Thank you for your recipe. I’ve been using the instant pot to make dog food with chicken thighs, but am curious about using whole fish. Are you cooking and feeding your dogs the head and bones, too?

Hi Nancy! Nope, those have been removed when we fileted the fish to remove all the guts. Hope that helps!

How about the skin? Do you leave it on? Do you take it off before or after cooking? Not a big fish eater.
