Thanks for sharing Summer! I wrote this post and published it before giving birth to my daughter. I was planning a home birth but it ended up in a c-section…not at all what I was planning! I had to go through the same struggle of pride. You are exactly right, it is important to prepare but if it doesn’t go as planned – that is OK! (: Each birth story is unique and important <3

Not all places are pushy. 😉 I didn’t read any books because I’m so not a reader but I wanted fully unmedicated labor and birth. Sadly, it did not happen. I developed very high BP and HR and was diagnosed with preeclampsia during labor. I got an epidural due to help and reduce the chance of further complications and possible c-section. I still am mourning the fact that I couldn’t go med-free… but I’d rather the epidural than an emergency c-section or worse.

Anyway, just sharing this because I was very stubborn and wanted unmedicated. Like I was as determined as ever but I had to choose my health and my baby girl’s HEALTH over my PRIDE! So, I wanted to share that even if you read all of the books that it’s okay if your birth doesn’t go the way you had planned. Birth is unpredictable no matter how educated you are. There should never be any shame placed on a mama for her birth plans or birth story.
