A sign that you live in the Keweenaw: you can't get one tomato to ripen on the vine😆🥲

I planted these tomatoes outdoors from seed (didn't start indoors bc my daughter was born in March) as soon as possible and here we are, at the end of summer with only green tomatoes! I'm not surprised actually...the nights are cold already, in the 40s, and we had a cooler summer. Here's to hoping these ripen indoors otherwise I have to research some good green tomato recipes😋

The meat chickies are 8 weeks old today which mean

The meat chickies are 8 weeks old today which means this next weekend is butcher time! We ordered male Cornish crosses so they are ready closer to the 8 or 9 week mark, where females are ready closer to 10 weeks. We've been moving their two tractors every day so they have fresh pasture!
.
We have had 4 losses total so far...one was really young that got squished, two more were from heart attacks at the halfway mark, and one was recent also from a heart attack/failure. Losses are to be expected but I'll be sharing a blog post soon on what we have learned from our first year raising them! That means we have 57 left, and hope they all make it to the weekend!

We have one apple tree that decided it wanted to g

We have one apple tree that decided it wanted to give us summer apples and dropped most of them early! So today we collected the good ones (freeze dried parts of the half good ones and gave the chickens the rest) and filled our medium deep freezer almost halfway! We reused our feed bags and some cardboard to layer the apples in nicely. We'll be pulling these out throughout the winter to make sauce🍎🍏🍎 This is only the start of the apple preserving...there are many more trees well be picking from come September! And check for some soon at the farm stand and farmers market(:

We have two barn kitties, Pike and Perch. Perch sticks around but Pike often leaves, sometimes for weeks at a time! He's been gone for about four months now so we assumed he was gone for good or dead...UNTIL...he shows up this morning right in time for breakfast!!! What a wonderful surprise🥰

One day old baby chicks on their way from the incubator to the brooder...is there anything cuter?!?😍 Maybe just that toddler hand gently petting one😭

It has been so fun to see all the colors we got this round! Black, white, and every shade of gray! We are replacing our first flock of chickens this year as they are 3 years old already...they will go into the freezer this fall and these new guys will take over the egg laying business!

Our meat chickens are just over 2 weeks old and graduated to their meat chicken tractor! In a couple of weeks we will split them up evenly into a second one. We are loving having them out on pasture and they are loving all the bugs! They've survived one night, so here's to hoping the survive many more🤗🐣
